A pink Cadillac has been a popular iconic vehicle with various Rhythm and Blues singers for decades.

The first pink Cadillac rolled off the assembly line in the mid 1950s with style and glamour and it didn’t take long for entertainers to notice its appeal and start featuring it in their songs and videos.

Elvis in a never seen before video

The late Elvis Presley was an early admirer of the pink Cadillac and ordered a 1954 Fleetwood Series 60 as a daily driver, which was later destroyed in a roadside fire due to a mechanical failure. The “King of Rock and Roll” quicky replaced it with a blue 1955 Fleetwood Series 60 Special, which was repainted to pink after being mentioned in his song “Baby, Let’s Play House,” which he recorded in 1955. The pink color caught on and became an iconic Cadillac color for entertainers throughout the 50s and well into the 80s.

Mary Kay Ash, the founder of Mary Kay Inc., joined the pink craze with a custom-ordered 1967 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, which was the color of her lip and eye palette. In 1969, she added more pink Cadillacs, adorned in a special color called Mary Kay Pink Pearl, as a reward to Independent Beauty Consultants for their performance as Independent Sales Directors. This sales incentive, known as the "Career Car Program," is still in use to this day by the Mary Kay company, although sales consultants can now choose a cash reward or other brand of vehicles and colors.

In 1984 Bruce Springsteen, came out with the song “Pink Cadillac, which became popular in the “heartland rock” genre. He was in his mid 30s and according to published reports, he was inspired by his girlfriend’s pink Caddy.

The late Aretha Franklin recorded “Freeway of Love” in 1985 and mentioned none other than a pink Cadillac, which was first mentioned by Springsteen. The song became a hit single on the Aretha's “Who’s Zoomin' Who?” album. As a tribute to the “Queen of Soul” during her funeral in Detroit on Aug. 31, 2018, around 100 pink the Cadillac of various models participated in the procession.

Natalie Cole, who passed away in 2015, did her version of Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac” in 1988 to keep the iconic craze going by featuring a pink 1956 Cadillac Coupe de Ville in her video for the song.

There are more songs about a Cadillac by various artists, but not necessarily pink models. Through the decades the pink Cadillac and the soulful sounds of R&B created the perfect mood to keep your fingers snapping to the beat.

The next few years will bring sweeping changes to analog landline phone service as telecommunications favor fiber optics and internet-based systems.

The traditional landline service, which has been around since the late 1800s, will start to phase out as fiber optics technology, invented in the 1960s, becomes more widespread for telecommunications.

Fiber optics will replace copper wire

This will be a massive undertaking as hundreds of miles of copper wire currently used to transmit phone signals is replaced by fiber optics systems that are much more technologically advanced and efficient.

Another blow to landlines was the arrival of ‘Voice over Internet Protocol” (VoIP) systems in the 1990s, which gained more traction throughout the 2000s by offering digital communications over the internet, along with the ability to be integrated with additional digital services, such as cable television and other streaming services.

FCC approves order to end landlines

The phone service providers are leading the way to the move away from landlines and are backed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which approved an order in 2022 allowing telecom companies to limit or end landline service to their customers.

Some states, such as California, are underway with plans to “stop servicing traditional landlines and discontinue copper landline phone service.”
Landlines provide familiarity for senior citizens

The transition from analog to digital phone services could be of great concern to senior citizens, who are probably the biggest users of landlines nowadays because of their familiarity and trustworthiness with this traditional technology. And there are some alarm systems that still depend on analog landlines for communications with monitoring services and law enforcement agencies.

Landlines shine when power is out

But with all the high-tech capabilities that fiber optics and VoIP systems will provide, such as high-speed internet, wireless networks, streaming services, and enhanced telecommunications, the one benefit that landlines have is the fact that some analog phones still work when the power goes out.

As we march forward into a digital future for telecommunications, long-lived landlines for decades of traditional dialing.

FedNow is a new instant payment system being developed by the Federal Reserve in the United States. The system is designed to allow users to transfer funds between accounts in real time, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays. FedNow is expected to launch in 2023 or 2024.

The impact of FedNow on paper money transactions is expected to be relatively limited. FedNow is primarily designed for electronic transactions, so it will likely have the greatest impact on electronic payment systems such as credit and debit cards, online payments, and mobile payments. However, FedNow may eventually lead to a reduction in the use of cash, as more people and businesses may choose to use electronic payment methods that are faster and more convenient.

It's important to note that while FedNow will enable instant payments, it does not eliminate the need for traditional paper money transactions. Many people and businesses still rely on cash for transactions, particularly in situations where electronic payment methods may not be available or feasible. It's possible that FedNow and other electronic payment systems will continue to reduce the use of cash in the economy.

CBDCs may follow the FedNow instant payments system

The implementation of FedNow is not directly related to the development of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), but there is certainly a connection between the two. CBDCs are a type of digital currency that is issued and backed by a central bank to function as a digital equivalent of physical cash.

Many central banks around the world, including the Federal Reserve, are currently exploring the development of CBDCs. The Federal Reserve has not yet made a final decision on whether to issue a CBDC, but it has been studying the potential benefits and risks of doing so.

If the Federal Reserve decides to issue a CBDC, it would likely be built on top of the same technological infrastructure that is being developed for FedNow. This is because both FedNow and CBDCs require fast, secure, and reliable payment infrastructure that can handle large volumes of transactions.

In summary, while FedNow and CBDCs are not directly related, the development of FedNow's payment infrastructure could provide a strong foundation for the potential development and implementation of a CBDC by the Federal Reserve.

CBDC implementation has no clear frontrunner for development

Several central banks around the world are actively exploring or developing CBDCs, but there is currently no clear frontrunner for being the first to implement a CBDC platform. The timing and pace of CBDC implementation will likely vary depending on each country's unique circumstances and priorities.

But some countries and central banks are further ahead in their CBDC development efforts than others. The People's Bank of China (PBOC) has been testing its digital currency, the Digital Currency Electronic Payment (DCEP), since 2020 and has already conducted large-scale trials with selected users and merchants.

Other countries that have made significant progress in their CBDC development efforts include Sweden, which is testing its e-krona with pilot users, and the Bahamas, which has already launched its own CBDC, the Sand Dollar, in a limited capacity.

U.S. Federal Reserve continues to explore CBDC innovation

In the United States, the Federal Reserve has been studying the potential benefits and risks of a CBDC but has not yet made a final decision on whether to issue one. However, the Fed has indicated that it is taking the issue seriously and is working to ensure that the U.S. remains at the forefront of digital payments innovation.

In summary, while it is difficult to predict which country or central bank will be the first to implement a CBDC platform, there are several countries and central banks that are actively pursuing CBDC development and could potentially launch a CBDC in the near future.

As if nothing is sacred in the emerging electrification of transportation, several luxury supercars have hybrid and all-electric plans, including Ferrari, Aston Martin, McLaren, Bentley Motors, and Automobili Pininfarina.

Ferrari is introducing its first all-electric vehicle in 2025 with a unique design, enhanced aerodynamics, and a patented sound to mimic the engine roar.

This Italian manufacturer with the Prancing Horse logo has been around since 1947 and is known around the world for its luxury sport cars that have been manufactured in Maranello, Italy from day one.

For guidance on their first fully electric vehicle, Ferrari choose Benedetto Vigna, an outsider from the semiconductor industry, as their new Chief Executive Officer. The Italian native has over 26 years of experience and knows the role of chips in the automotive sector and especially in electric vehicles.

The new Ferrari EV will not be totally self-driving and I can’t imagine why anyone would want an autonomous Ferrari that would take away the experience of shifting through the gears while enjoying the distinctive roar of the engine.

Although Ferrari is moving forward with their new electrification project, this is not their first rodeo with electric vehicles, as they have been involved with hybrid technology in past years. Their first hybrid was the LaFerrari in 2013, which combined an electric motor with a classic V12 internal combustion engine.

It was followed by the LaFerrari Aperta convertible in 2016, which was deemed as a special version of the 2013 LaFerrari by offering a removable roof. The LaFerrari hybrid was in the $1.5M range and the Aperta required a fat wallet at around $2M.

In later years, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale hybrid, introduced in 2019, was packing a 3.9-liter V8 and three electric motors. In a pinch, the SF90 could be driven for up to around 15 miles in electric mode. If you just had to have a convertible, the SF90 Spider was available for first-class open-air motoring.

Two years later, the Ferrari 296 GTB joined the hybrid’s stable with a high-performance version born to cruise at around 205 mph.

With the stage set during the past several years of using traditional ICE combined with hybrid technology, their fully-electric project might take some design cues from the upcoming 2023 Purosangue, which will be the company’s first SUV in 75 years of existence. This will be a four-door, four-seater with four-wheel drive and is likely to have four electric motors along with multiple battery packs.

Among the other luxury supercar brands, Aston Martin is developing the Valhalla supercar as a plug-in hybrid and will shift into their first electric vehicle by 2025. The mid-engine V8 and 150kWh/400V electric powertrain with just a smidgen under 1,000 horsepower will have an impressive speed of 0-62 mph in a mere 2.5 seconds, which was fast enough for 007 in the Bond 25 movie.
Bugatti is holding off on their electrification plans for now, as nothing is planned for this decade. But I’m hearing of a new partnership where Bugatti's electrification plans are going to be under the watchful engineering of the Porsche and Rimac brands, who also have their own electric projects on the drawing boards. So maybe, just maybe, the next Bugatti hypercar will at least be a hybrid. The Bugatti/Rimac partnership might have something to announce any day now and a mention of the new Bugatti Bollide concept would signal a step toward electrification.

.

The almighty Lamborghini will test the waters with a hybrid model and follow with an electric car further down the road in this decade. In the meantime, you can start dreaming about the Terzo Millennio, which the company is pitching as a super sports car with efficiency, innovation, and something special called a supercapacitor.

If raw speed is your fancy, McLaren Automotive has had a Formula 1 racing heritage since around 1963, and offers up the Speedtail Hyper GT as a hybrid that will likely pave the way for future electrification. With a top speed of 250 mph, the Speedtail is expected is to be revealed in late October.

And let’s not forget about Bentley Motors, the epitome of luxury who has been around 1919 showcasing their extraordinary cars. As for electrification, Bentley offers up the Bentayga S SUV and the Flying Spur Mulliner as plug-in hybrids alongside their conventional V6, V8, and W12 internal combustion engines. If all goes well, we may see an electrified Bentley around 2025 and I wouldn’t mind being in line for an all-electric Flying Spur Speed or Continental GT S.

As for a pure electric supercar the team at Automobili Pininfarina have the Battista, which is referred to as a hypercar instead of a supercar and was first drooled over at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. It is being described as “Infusing twice the power of a Formula 1 racing car and is the most powerful Italian sports car ever.” This claim is backed up by a 120kWh battery with four motors generating close to 1,900 horsepower that will take you from 0-60 mph in two seconds and has a range within a stone’s throw of 300 miles. The speed engineers are saying not even an ICE can produce this kind of extreme performance.

As these supercars and hypercars speed into the electrification revolution, I don't think horsepower and overall performance will be an issue. But the sound of a superbly tuned ICE will certainly be missed unless the engineers can also replicate the distinctive engine roar.

A flying car developed in Slovakia by BMW has been issued the official “Certificate of Airworthiness” and is one step closer to mass production after undergoing around 70 hours of extensive certification testing.

The AirCar’s development included over 100,000 hours of protypes and design testing, which resulted in its first inter-city flight in early 2021. It is a dual -mode model and is powered by at 1.6L BMW engine that demonstrated successful takeoffs and landings, along with stability while in the aircraft mode.
The engineering feats accomplished in the development of the AirCar include the automated transition from a road vehicle to an air vehicle, which required the automated deployment of wings and tail.<br

If all goes well, the flying car team expects to have a new production model certified in 12 months. The final production model is expected to reach speeds of 186 mph with a range of around 621 miles.

Keep you eyes open for flying cars in the near future, maybe within a year in the skies over Europe.

More and more battery-electric transit buses are pulling up at bus stops all over the country.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), one of the largest public transit systems in the U.S., is one of the latest public transportation systems to get on board with plans to add six Xcelsior CHARGE battery-electric forty-foot buses. The Atlanta transit system delivers over 116 million passenger trips per year. The funding for the buses will be supported by the Federal Transit Authority.

The buses from New Flyer of America Inc., a subsidiary of NFI Group Inc., will have a capacity of 40-43 people and a range of around 350 miles with zero-emission. NFI was founded in 1930 and is now a global bus manufacturer. The company introduced its first battery-electric bus in 2012 and now has team members in 10 countries.

Some of the features of electric buses that differentiate it from diesel-powered transit buses include wider walking areas, Wi-Fi connectivity, USB chargers and the bus being quieter with the electric powertrain and possibly lower maintenance costs. There will be front and rear wheelchair ramps. According to MARTA, these battery-electric buses will support their efforts to “reduce greenhouse gas emissions through sustainable transportation.” The buses will have a life span of 12 years and should save around $400,000 in fuel costs.

Designed on NFI's Xcelsior platform, New Flyer offers zero-emission mobility through its battery-electric Xcelsior CHARGE (in 35, 40, and 60-foot lengths) and fuel cell-electric Xcelsior CHARGE H2 (in 40 and 60-foot lengths). A fully automated transit bus is also in the works.

Atlanta will be joining several other electric bus fleets across the U.S, including the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) in California, the Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation in the state of New York, and an order for 100 Additional Transit Buses for the Washington, D.C. Metro Region. The eastern Georgia city of Augusta is also testing the waters with eco-friendly electric buses.

While the headlines for the emerging electric vehicles technology has been dominated early on by Toyota with the Prius, starting in 2001 and the founding of Tesla in 2003, NFL arrived on the scene in 2012 with its first battery-electric bus. Although the Tesla Model S, also introduced in 2012, might have grabbed all the attention, NFI has been quietly perfecting the electric transit bus technology and delivered its 10,000 Xcelsior-platform electric bus in 2018.

Nowadays, with most of the major auto manufacturers involved in the electric vehicles revolution, New Flyer and NFI continue to move forward with new bus models for the future of the public transportation. According to the company, the automation plans for the Xcelsior AV model will be North America's first automated transit bus.

Don’t be surprised when an all-electric bus pulls up at a bus stop near you. And with the autonomous plans, it might not have a bus driver on board.

Posted by Earnest Hart | LifeFlicks, LLChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11329435725692766710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6786065476010416617.post-56597183101890458022021-07-14T06:47:00.002-05:002021-07-20T18:40:01.598-05:00Windows 11 for business is coming soon with enhanced features

<br.
And here comes the electric buses all the way from Qatar. I believe we are starting to see the future of public transportation.

This first batch of the EV fleet is a part of Qatar’s public transportation plan for the year 2030 being initiated by this Western Asia State on the Arabian Peninsula.

The EVs will be suited for local transportation in all kinds of weather conditions, which is important for vehicles powered by electricity. With liquid-cooled engines along with a 350-kilowatt hour (kWh) lithium iron phosphate battery, the buses are expected to have an average range of around 127 miles, or 200 kilometers.

The manufacturing company, Yutong Bus Co., Ltd, is a specialist in the production of buses and is also working closely with the Qatar government for their “green transformation” efforts in the future.

I am sure this technology will be making a presence on this side on the pond very soon. So do not be too surprised if a snazzy and colorful electric bus pulls up alongside you at the stoplight.
I believe that self-driving cars are going to be the next big thing, with mainstream companies like Tesla, Google, and start ups like Zoox leading the way.

Although Tesla has gotten a head start and is planning on launching their technology in 2020 or sooner, don’t underestimate Zoox, who has a new CEO in Aichia Evans, a native of Senegal, with impressive credentials and a track record to match with tech giants like Intel Corporation and Communication and Devices Group.

Evans has been responsible for wireless engineering in past roles, especially at Intel, where she engineered WiMAX networks, and also during stints with firms like Conexant, Rockwell Semiconductors, and Skyworks.

Now the former Intel senior vice president, with an army of gurus from other tech companies, will try to work her magic in the autonomous driving sector, with a vision of robo-taxis tooling passengers around town . With testing going in San Francisco, the Zoox team is hoping to be on the streets in 2020. Time will tell if Zoox is able to turn its visionary ride-hailing idea into a successful business and revenue.

As reported in Business Insider, Zoox co-founder and CTO Jesse Leninson said Zoox is developing autonomous vehicles for “ride-hailing” instead of individual ownership. This makes more economic sense to me, as monies will be accepted by the same vehicle multiple times of day and night. Whereas, with individual ownership, sure you’ll pay a bundle to purchase the self-driving vehicle, but then what? It’ll stay parked and depreciate until you need to make a trip.

One big gamble for Zoox is that Waymo, owned by Alphabet (Google’s parent company) and Cruise Automation, backed by General Motors, are using vehicles already in operation by traditional auto manufacturers, while Zoox is building their vehicles from the ground up, with custom hardware and software. While Waymo has been testing their vehicles on a limited basis in Arizona, they recently got permission to test their prototypes on roads in Las Vegas, which might be more challenging than the streets of their home territory in San Francisco.

Waymo has been developing their public ride-hailing service for a couple of years now with an early-rider program and recently launched apps in the Apple and Google Play stores.

Let’s certainly not count out Elon Musk and Tesla’s Autopilot system, which has been around since 2014. While not entirely self-driving at this point, this innovative system does offer limited autonomous driving, lane changing and “summon your car” features.

The Autopilot feature, which is now standard on every Tesla, has had several updates over the past years and is now available as an enhanced package for customers who purchase the Full Self-Driving, or FSD, package for around $7,000. Just be aware that even with Telsa’s ability to drive autonomously, a driver must stay alert and ready to take over the controls.

Depending on who you believe, Tesla is pushing for their FSD package before the end of 2019 or a debut in 2020. The company also has plans in the works for s Tesla robotaxi service.

On the world stage, another player in the autonomous arena is Chinese startup AutoX, founded by Jianxiong Xiao, or Professor X, who has vast experience in computer learning and robotics. With a team of notable engineers, they have been developing their self-driving technology since 2016. Their approach to self-driving includes real-time cameras, sensors and artificial intelligence for quick reactions and autonomous decisions. They have already earned the coveted “California Public Utilities Commission” permit and completed their first Robotaxi service to a passenger in California.

The AutoX team is also turning their attention to deploying RoboTaxis in Europe by partnering with Swedish EV manufacturer NEVS, who acquired Saab Automobile AB in 2012. We’ll probably see more autonomous development from this team in 2020.

Simply because of who they are, and with deep pockets, Waymo is probably considered the market leader in the autonomous driving arena, The Google-backed company seems to be further along with their technology while shuttling real passengers who are using their service.
I imagine it’ll be that way for a while, or at least until Apple and Amazon reveal their autonomous plans.
BMW drivers can now turn their smartphone into their car key if they’re driving the latest X5 SUV or 8 Series Coupe.

These luxury BMW drivers will be able to unlock their car and start the engine with Digital Key using the “Near Field Communication” technology, also known as NFC. They’ll also be able to share their Digital Key access with up to five family members or friends, who'll use a four-digit code for access.

The process and verifications might seem a little intimidating at the beginning, as you’ll need several levels of authorization, the BMW Connected app, a Connected Drive account, and a compatible smart phone with NFC capability. At present, Android devices have been given the nod, such as the Samsung Galaxy family and the latest Note devices. Unfortunately, iPhone owners will not be able to play with the Bimmer’s Digital key system. But I’m sure Apple has something in the works. Read more...Posted by Earnest Hart | LifeFlicks, LLChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11329435725692766710noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6786065476010416617.post-40201288934984570692019-10-01T19:45:00.001-05:002019-10-01T19:45:59.317-05:00IoT is digital transformation, AI, innovation, many more things

There is a lot of innovation happening in the Samsung camp, with the release of the Galaxy Fold and the upcoming Galaxy S10 5G. The Galaxy Fold is already out in the wild for early adopters with mixed reviews and 5G on the Galaxy S10 will be available in May.
The Galaxy Fold is being pitched as one of greatest groundbreaking devices and Samsung is thinking it will change the mobile landscape. According to Samsung, their engineers created over 1,000 prototypes while creating a revolutionary device with new technologies and materials for a tablet-like experience.

But some early users are reporting problems with the display showing cracks along the crease between the two screens. We’ll have to see how Samsung responds to these complaints and whether a serious defect has been discovered right out of the gate.

--------------------------------------------

Update: The Galaxy Fold was supposed to be available in the U.S.on April 26. But after reports of display issues from early users, Samsung is delaying the launch indefinitely. According to the company, a new release date will be announced in the coming weeks.

And as of May 21, electronics retail giant Best Buy has cancelled all preorders for the Galaxy Fold. There is still no indication of a new launch date for the ill-fated smartphone.

--------------------------------------------

When folded, with a distinctive, perhaps magnetic, click, the unique design Galaxy Fold is a slender or tall, display for regular content on the front side and triple camera lens the back side of the phone. The home screen can show three apps in a row on the narrow display. It can be conveniently slipped into a purse or inside coat pocket.

When the Galaxy Fold is fully opened, it locks in position and there is a 7.3-inch display allowing content to fill both screens and approaches the size of a tablet with a spacious digital keyboard when needed. Samsung and Google collaborated on a feature named App Continuity which allows whatever content that was on the slender, folded display, to suddenly fill both sides of the display in the open position. Two forward-facing cameras occupy a corner of the unfolded display.

When the displays are fully open, the 7.3-inch size can show five apps icons across and six down, for a total of around 30 apps to choose from. Three apps can be opened for multitasking.

If you’re hungry to get your hands on the Galaxy Fold, it’ll be available on April 26 at select AT&T, Best Buy and Samsung Experience stores. You’ll need around $2,000 you probably won’t get any change back.

More speed is on the horizon as 5G debuts in South Korea and around the world

Another Samsung showcase is just around the corner, dressing up as 5G wireless service, and promising unheard-of speed and connectivity from major carriers in South Korea.

As 5G is rolled out around the world, Samsung will have the Galaxy S10 5G standing by to take advantage of the new wireless power. According to Samsung, users will experience hyper-fast movies, streaming of games, and faster handling of photos and videos.

Prism colors, luxurious materials to bring attention to Galaxy S10 line

As for the Galaxy S10 line, a lot of thought was put into the design by using bright, prism colors, with emphasis on attracting a new generation of Millennials and Gen Z consumers. You’ll be able to choose from innovative colors, such as Ceramic Black and Ceramic White. Other playful color include Canary Yellow and Flamingo Pink.

The Product Design Team were very thorough with every detail for the Galaxy S10, including where to position the front camera to not interfere with the content and how to ensure a comfortable grip.

U.S. wireless companies preparing to roll out 5G networks

We can expect 5G to increase its presence in the United States in the coming months. But according to AT&T, they are the first to currently offer Mobile 5G in 19 U.S cities and reach 1 gigabit per second wireless speeds. The cities with AT&T's mobile 5G service include Austin, Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose.

Verizon is on the move as well, with 5G service in Chicago and Minneapolis using 5G-enabled smartphones on their 5G Ultra Wideband network. Verizon has release plans to "launch its 5G service in more than 30 U.S. cities in 2019."

With the Sprint and T-Mobile merger still pending, these companies also have the potential to make great strides with the 5G technology.

The next generation of technology is fast approaching with foldable phones and super-fast networks.

Key Pad, and Contact Sensor.

I have only had the Ring Alarm system for a few weeks and I’m already a fan of the Ring ecosystem. Before the Ring Alarm, I also had purchased the Ring Floodlight Cam and I am equally as pleased.

With the Ring Alarm basic package, you get a Base Station, Motion Detector, a Range Extender, Key Pad, and Contact Sensor. After experiencing what the Ring Alarm can do, you’ll probably add additional sensors and motion detectors.

Depending on your skills, you can install this system yourself if you’re a handy person, with just a drill and a screwdriver. Or you might not need any tools, depending on your location for the components and whether you use adhesive strips instead of screws.

Installation is a breeze following the instructions

The Ring Alarm is not your typical alarm system and a traditional installation approach is not the best way. I choose to install all the components first and then complete the setup.

But you can complete the setup with the Ring Base Station plugged into power and the sensor and motion detector on a table, as you’ll need to pull tabs from the batteries in the sensors and open/close covers in the process. Depending on the component and whether it’s an additional component, such as a sensor or motion detector, you might need to scan a bar code label on the sensor. All these tasks can be performed best if the Ring motion detector and contacts sensor are not mounted.

After the components have been recognized by the Base Station and the magnetic sensors and motion detector are working properly, then go about installing the components in their proper location.

Be prepared for light carpentry and wall refinishing

Contact Sensor

If you’re replacing an existing alarm system, be mindful that the Ring sensors might be about twice the size of what you are replacing. In my case, the existing door contact sensors from another alarm company were mortised into the door facing, which meant I had to enlarge the mortise to accommodate the Ring sensor. But that was accomplished with my trusty Dremel saw with an oscillating wood blade and a steady hand.

Just a tip on installing the contact sensors: Both components have a slight notch on them that should be lined up. That prevents one of them from being installed upside down.

There is also a chance the Ring components might not cover existing holes from a previous door contact sensor and keypad, especially if the Ring Keypad is mounted on the wall in the same location as the previous keypad. That’s just the difference the design of bracket components from one company to another and no fault of the Ring components. A little Spackle and a dab of matching paint will cover the holes.

The Keypad can be mounted on a wall or table.

Since I choose mounting my keypad on the wall instead of placing on a table, and my wife hates looking at cords, I went to the trouble of hiding the power cord for the Keypad inside the wall by drilling a hole behind the mounting backing and running the cord down to the electrical outlet below, exiting the wall at that point and plugging it in.

But the Ring Keypad also works off battery power, so this could be a none issue until it’s time to recharge the internal battery.
I also think the Ring Base Station looks the best when placed in a location where it can be plugged into an electrical outlet and the cord is out of sight behind a table. All the neat freaks will nod their heads here.

Don’t forget about downloading the Ring App

Ring - Always Home app

You’ll also want to go ahead and download the Ring App, as this will become your best friend for mobile monitoring and even setting and disarming the alarm. A lot of your sensor settings will be done inside the App, such as the modes for whether you are “home” or “away” from home. You’ll also set up your rooms, such as family room, den, kitchen, bedroom, and door categories, such as main and secondary door.

Just another tip here, the “main door” should be where your keypad is located and where you would arm and disarm the Ring system on exit and entry.

The Ring setup within the app will default to the name of your city for the location. But its easily changed if you have a name for your home or business. You’ll want to adjust the volume of the Base Station speaker and please don’t forget to write down your PIN and Security Code.

Now it’s showtime for the Ring Alarm system

Once everything is installed, it’s time for the Ring Alarm to show its stuff, and it’s quite impressive. Now that you have proper chirps from the door or window sensors and the motion detectors are working, along with exit and entry codes from the keypad, the entire Ring Alarm ecosystem comes alive.

The Keypad can be set to light up as you approach it, which will be helpful in a room with low light. You simply chose whether you’re leaving (Away), at home for a while (Home), or going to bed for the night. And of course, you’ll want to set your exit and entry delay. If this is a threat, there is two-key combination for a panic mode that will send an alarm to the monitoring station.

For me, the best part of the system is the Ring App, which is available for iOS, Android, Mac and Windows. At a glance, I can see if the Ring Alarm system is disarmed or set to Home or Away. There is a wealth of settings or modes to choose from, such as Devices, under which you can view the settings for the Base Station, Keypad, Extender, Sensors and Motion Detectors. The battery level of each sensor is displayed, along with alerts status, event history and a choice of Chirp Tones.

Just another tip here: If the Keypad is in “power save mode” in the settings, the display will not illuminate when you approach it.

Another beauty of the Ring Alarm system is the sophistication of the communication being pushed to your mobile device. You will never be in the dark about what’s going on around your home. The minute a door is opened, you’ll know with a notification something like “Back door in family room opened at 12/20/18 at 05:30. P.M.” You’ll know if someone just came home. Then it might be followed by another notification with “Ring Alarm changed to Disarmed at 12/20/18 05:31 P.M.”

The only person that might escape the watchful eyes of the Ring Alarm is a pet, as our small dog is able to roam freely from couch to couch without being detected. People cannot escape the Ring Alarm notifications.

Any problems with the Ring Alarm system are easily fixed

As with any technology, things might go awry or seem to not be working properly. But the Ring Alarm is so well engineered that any issues are most likely caused by a particular “setting” turned on or off within the Ring App.

It’s important to choose the correct door for the main entry or exit and to set your motion detectors to be deactivated when home.
If you just can’t figure it out on your own, a quick call to customer support will your problem solved quickly, as the customer support specialists are very knowledgeable about the Ring products.

The Ring Alarm system offers ease of installation, remote monitoring, effective motion detectors, sensitive entry/exit sensors and just overall peace of mind.

The minuses are very few in my experience. I had a few erratic alerts and alarms that had me stumped for a while, but everything is working fine now, thanks to the kind and courteous people in Ring customer support.

For around $200, the Ring Alarm kit is a good buy for home security. If you’re replacing an existing system, you might even save a few dollars on the monitoring, as the monthly plan for Ring’s professional security monitoring is around $10 per month or $100 annually, which includes all Ring devices at one address.

With the Ring Alarm, sophisticated security is “Always Home.” The bad guys will just need to keep going.

The Black Friday shopping craze is almost here, and Bose is already out of the gate with some early headphones’ deals. With some help from Spending Lab, a firm who monitors the world of online retail and e-commerce, here are the top picks from the Bose line of devices.

<img alt="With the Bose Quiet Comfort 25 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones, loud noises are reduced to a whisper and sounds from music you not have noticed before.

Try Bose noise cancelling headphones for peace and quiet

First up for grabs is the Bose Quiet Comfort 25 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones designed for Apple devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch 2nd generation or the later iPod classic and iPod Nano.

The headphones, with rotating earcups, also include an inline mic/remote to control music functions. For noisy environments, such as the roar of an airplane, Bose says all you’ll hear is a whisper. When listening to music, you’ll be surprised at the subtle details you may have not noticed before.
You can pick up a pair at this link for under $200.

Active lifestyles call for the Bose SoundSport in your ears

If you’re looking for some snazzy in-ear headphones, these Bose SoundSport in Energy Green might satisfy your needs. Bose is pitching deep, clear sound quality using their TriPort technology for clear high and lows with a natural sound.

According to Bose, these have proprietary “Stay Hear” tips to help them stay in your ear comfortably all day long and they are sweat and weather resistant.

If you have an iOS device, these headphones’ controls will answer calls and adjust the volume directly from a control pod on the cable. For around $90, you could be sporting the Bose SoundSport for the holidays season.

Eliminate background noise with wireless Bose SoundLink

The Bose SoundLink around-ear wireless headphone are worth a look for deep, immersive sound and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity up to around 30 feet from your sound source. These wireless headphones offer up to 15 hours of play time with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

According to Bose, the ear cushion is made up with rayon and nylon and does not contain latex.

A user report says you can listen to two audio sources simultaneously, such as music on your computer while monitoring your phone for voice calls. If you get a call, the music can still play in the background if you desire.

With these features, a price for $230 or less, or a Black Friday deal, would be a winner.

Black Friday, Cyber Monday deals expecting record sales

Spending Lab is saying that as Black Friday deals draws near, along with Cyber Monday, the sales are expected to break online and spending and web traffic records. As further proof of the popularity of these shopping extravaganzas, Adobe Analytics concludes American shoppers spent $19.62 billion online during Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2017, with an increase of $2.6 billion or 15% over the previous year’s sales.

So be on the lookout for more shopping deals in the coming weeks.
The Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance has launched MBC Connect, an iOS and Android app to assist patients with building a database of patient information to drive research and seek solutions for the MBC community.

MBC Connect app

The features of the app, which is designed by patients, for patients, include access to an interactive patient registry and capabilities to explore patient data, as well as create a link between patients, clinical trials and relevant research.

"MBC Connect is designed to address some very serious challenges in the MBC community," said Marc Hurlbert, Chairman, MBC Alliance. "It not only represents an opportunity to unlock the mysteries of a marginalized patient population, it also represents significant opportunity for a disease that's only received a fraction of breast cancer research funding."

MBC Connect app provides clinical trials information

Stage IV MBC is categorized as having spread beyond the breast to the bones, lung, liver, brain or other body organs. It is considered treatable but not curable.

According to the MBC Alliance, existing cancer registries do not count metastatic recurrences, and few patients participate in clinical trials. The MBC Connect app gives patients and caregivers a platform to update their information, respond to short surveys and create a holistic treatment profile.
The app’s users will receive information on breast cancer news and events, personalized insights, and possible clinical trial opportunities.

MBC Connect app data is encrypted, HIPPA compliant

As for security and privacy concerns, all patient data is encrypted and stored in HIPAA-compliant database that can be accessed here.

The patient app is currently available in the App store or Google Play, with plans to launch in four more countries in 2019. More information is available here.

It looks like the Amazon Alexa has some company, with the Google Home Hub arriving on the scene to muscle up to the Echo Show.

This is Google’s version of a touchscreen smart display device announced at their new products shindig on October 9, 2018, in the Big Apple, or New York for some of us. It’ll sport a seven-inch screen and Google Assistant for voice commands.

Google Home Hub loaded with features

Among the other features are access to your Google calendar, reminders, shopping list and more. For smart-home fans, it’ll also tap into your Nest security cameras, Nest Hello video doorbell, lights and even the television. The display will dim at night and brighten up while the coffee is brewing in the morning.

For inquiring minds, you can ask questions and get visual answers on weather, recipes of course, and videos from YouTube. And what’s a fancy smart device without music from your favorite songs, artists and streaming services, such as Pandora and Spotify. Google is saying all of this will be free of charge, along with six months of YouTube Premium.

We all have tons of photos and you can simply use your voice to show your favorites from Google Photos. For starters, just try “Hey Google, show my vacation photos.”

Google Home Hub is affordable

For around $150, a seven-inch display, Bluetooth and Far-Field voice recognition would not break the bank. According to Google, the full-range speaker has crystal clear sound.

Out of the four color that’ll be available, including sand, aqua and chalk, I’ll choose charcoal, but that’s just me. There might be some sand color fans around.

Google Home Hub not alone in its debut

It’s not hard to find on popular online retailer’s websites and is already available for preorder.

For hardcore Google fans, they also announced a new Pixel 3 phone that was not a big surprise, due to previous leaks, and a Pixel Slate tablet.

Alexa, order the Google Home Hub.

APC Battery Backup always on standby

I am all plugged into my APC UPS Battery Backup and ready for the next power outage. Some of my electronics won’t receive an abrupt shutdown as in past instances.
A lot of us spends hundreds of dollars on electronic devices, plug them into power strips with surge protection and feel good about our efforts, until the power goes out, causing everything to grind to a complete halt.

During a power outage, there is no time to saved critical files open on your computer or perform a safe-shutdown process. Mobile phones can’t be charged; the electric recliner won’t work; the pod coffee maker is idle.

An uninterruptible power supply, such as the APC UPS Battery Backup, would provide some safeguards for a power outage and allow work to continue for a few hours, or at least provide ample time to safely shut everything down.

The American Power Conversion Corporation, or APC, was established in 1981 and produced its first uninterruptible power supply, also known as a UPS, in 1986. The public company was acquired by Schneider Electric, who is known globally for expertise in the energy management and automation section.

APC UPS can provide backup power for several devices

The APC Battery Backup has seven total outlets that’ll accept three-pronged plugs, with five outlets providing backup protection and two providing only surge protection. A 300-watt battery provides backup-power. The unit also contains a 1.5 amp USB charging port for your smartphone during a power outage.

If you’re like most households, a lot of electronic devices will be clustered in one location. A battery backup could protect several devices from an outage, such as a TV, wireless router, DVR, cable box and maybe a stereo tuner.

APC Back-UPS 600VA UPS Battery Backup & Surge Protector
with USB Charging Port (BE600M1)

Another battery backup on the other side of the room could service a lamp, recliner or lift chair, and desktop computer. Yet another battery backup in the bedroom could service medical devices, such as a CPAP machine, sleeping aids or home nebulizers.

When a power outage does occur, the length of time the backup provides power will depend on the normal power consumption of the devices plugged into the battery side of the UPS. The company website can provide more information on calculating run time.

UPS also offers data port interface for PC energy management

This particular backup is designed for 120-volt devices and will not handle 240 volts. If you’re in a region where 220 volts is the standard, anything plugged in the UPS will only receive 120 volts. But a 220VAC version can be specified when placing an order.

The UPS battery backup unit also includes a USB Data Port and cable for connecting to a PC to utilize PowerChute Personal Edition software, which will provide a safe-system shutdown for an extended power outage, along with additional power and energy management features. The software also does periodic battery self-testing and early detection of a weak battery.

The battery is replaceable and some users have reported run times of around five years before needing a replacement. But I imagine the actual battery life would depend on the number of depletions and recharges due to power failures, which would cause the UPS to swing into action. But the normal schedule is to replace the battery every three years.

I’m thinking around $60 would be a good investment to protect your electronic equipment from data corruption and failures caused by abrupt power outages, along with not getting stuck in an electric recliner or needing the assistance of a crucial piece of medical equipment.

The next time the power goes out, you’ll have peace of mind.
The new Razer smartphone will have to stack up against some of the current heavyweights in the market, such as the latest iPhone and Samsung devices.

According to the company, the Razer will measure up with a 120Hz UltraMotion display, which is no slouch in the gaming sector. Without getting too technical, this feature is based on the Qualcomm QuickChange 4+ technology and the improvement in the refresh rate is impressive on the 5.72-inch display.

Razer packed with Dolby Atmos audio technology

For audio, the Razer is packed with Dolby Atmos technology, which has been labeled as the future of surround sound. It has roots in Hollywood on film sets starting around 2012, made its way into home audio equipment and now into the Razer smartphone. The Razer is promising a cinematic audio experience from the two front speakers with dual amplifiers.

One odd quirk with the Razer is the lack of a traditional headphone port. But the Razer solved this with a USB-C to 3.5mm audio adapter, and according to the company, guarantees audiophile-quality sound using your regular headphones with the aid of certified THX technology, along with 24-bit DAC in the audio adapter. The Razer is serious about the audio capability, as Dolby and THX are two well-known powerhouses the audio industry.

Under the hood, you’ll find the latest Qualcomm Technologies Inc. Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform, a 10-nanometer chip which also does duty in other flagship smartphones and Windows 10 “Always Connected” devices. To assist this processing power, there are eight gigabytes of RAM on board, which tops the rumored 3GB in the iPhone 10 and the 4GB in Samsung Galaxy S8.

As for all-day power, the Razer has a large 4,000 mAh battery and lays claim to having one of the largest in today’s smartphones and a rapid charging feature using Qualcomm’s “Quick Change 4+” technology. According to Qualcomm, a device can go from empty to 50 percent charge in just 15 minutes.

In the camera department, 12 megapixels is not too shabby for the Razer, especially with dual rear lens and dual-tone flash. There are lots of other smartphones that can’t match those specifications for picture taking and seamless zooming when needed.

Power users will love the Razer experience

The Razer is optimized for power users and the user experience can be enhanced further with the popular “Nova Launcher Prime,” developed by TeslaCoil Software, and running alongside Android 7 Nougat, the latest operating system for Android devices. But I hear Android 8 Oreo is just around the corner and according to company officials, the Razer will receive the Oreo upgrade in the spring of 2018.

The launcher prime software, available in the Google Play store, functions as a license to obtain the free Nova Launcher App to open the door for further updates and customization. Users can replace the home screen and modify icon themes, colors, layouts and animations.

To take advantage of the high-end audio features and processing power, the Razer company would like to invite users to watch movies on the Quad HD 5.72 display, listen to “expertly-tuned” audio and play games without concerns of running out of battery power.

“It’s common knowledge that I’m obsessed with my smartphones, I play a ton of games on them, and they’re my go-to for streaming content,” said Razer Co-Founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan. “We have wanted to make a phone with gaming-level tech for years, and the Razer Phone delivers in every way we imagined.”

Even If you’re not a hardcore gamer, you’ll probably find something to like about the Razer as a smartphone. The specifications are top-notch, with an attractive aluminum body and front-facing speakers. Just keep in mind this a first-try in the smartphone area for the Razer company and the best might be yet to come.

The new Echo Show is a real showstopper

The new Amazon Echo Show was left under the Christmas tree and we couldn’t wait until Christmas morning. This is one fun device and is worth tearing into the box early.

The Echo Show is about as technologically advanced as you can get and does just about everything, plus more things you’ll discover while exploring the many features.

The twist with the Echo Show is that it shows you what’s happening with visuals along with the voice notifications. The previous Echo devices fall short of the Echo Show’s features. Let’s take a closer look at the unique engineering of the Amazon’s latest wonder.

Echo Show: What’s under the hood

The Echo Show is square-shaped at 7.4 inches by 7.4 inches, with a seven-inch touchscreen color display. It tips the scales at around 41 ounces. There is a five-megapixel camera tucked away in the top bezel and blends in so well you might not notice it.

On the top of the housing, you’ll find three simple buttons -- a volume up, volume down, and a combination Mics/Camera/On/Off button.Down low, near the base, there is simply a power port. And that’s it for buttons and ports.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Learn more about the stylish Echo Show

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The magic starts with what’s lurking behind the mesh screen covering about a third of the front fascia which is where you’ll find two speakers powered by Dolby technology. I must say they sound really good.

If you look really close around the buttons on top, you’ll see a perforated ring surrounding the buttons that hides with eight microphones with beam-forming and noise cancellation technology to pick up your voice from across the room. I can vouch that this does work from the couch, my hangout, to the table across the room, where the Echo Show hangs out.

If I had to describe it, in a nutshell, it’s an inverted-wedge-shaped powerful voice-commands computer with no keyboard or mouse that always on and ready for your input.

Echo Show ready for action out of the box

Getting the Echo Show up and running is simple and easy. Just take it out of the box, plug it and twiddle only “one thumb” while it connects to the Internet. Alexa will be waiting.

If you’re the least bit familiar with the other Echo devices, such as the 1st and 2nd generation devices, and the newer Dot, Plus and Spot devices, you’ll be ahead of the game in operating the Echo Show. A lot of the things to try are similar, but the Echo Show has lots of new features and tricks to show off.

Video and visuals define the Echo Show

Just about every feature of the old devices is now visual on the Echo Show, such as the calendar, lists, songs, weather forecasts and the list goes on and on. Book covers are shown while reading Audible audiobooks content, as well as an album or CD artwork for music. Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, iHeartRadio visuals - they’re all there in full color. If you’re like me and can’t remember the words to songs, the lyrics are scrolling on the display as the songs play on the Echo Show.

Just like some of the earlier Echo devices, the Echo Show continues interfacing or syncing with compatible devices, such as room monitors, lights, thermostats, Philips Hue, Sony and other smart home devices. But since the Echo Show has a display, we can now add baby monitors and security cameras, such as the Amazon Cloud Cam. Pairing with Amazon Fire TV allows access to Amazon Video on the Echo’s seven-inch display.

Echo Show redefines “can you hear (and see) me now”

Perhaps the biggest unique feature of the Echo Show is the capability to make video calls from one Echo Show to another Echo Show, using the somewhat controversial Drop-in feature. You can also just call another Echo in the household and use them as an intercom between rooms.

Or you can use the Alex app on your mobile phone to make a Drop-in call to your own Echo Show at home and activate the camera for a makeshift security check from a remote location. Because of privacy concerns, you’ll want to pay special attention to the Drop-in feature and who actually has Drop-in access in your contacts list. The Drop-in feature is very powerful and you’ll want to have a good understanding of how it works.

The Drop-in feature would be great for checking on a sick friend or relative, seniors living alone, children or even the Pets, where you could tell Fido to get off the couch during the day. Yes, you can speak through a mobile phone remotely to the Echo Show, even if no one answers the call.

Other fun stuff includes telling Alexa to “take a selfie” with the camera and asking her to “find free Amazon prime movies,” which can be played on the seven-inch display.

Echo Show’s constant display of information draws attention

When idle, the display has three rotating screens, which include the current time and temperature, another with the tomorrow appointment from your calendar and the third could be a video trailer, maybe from Netflix, a news headline from The Washington Post or general trivia from other sources. When passing by the Echo Show, you'll have to pause a moment to see what you can learn from the constantly-changing display screen.

The lack of YouTube content for the Echo Show has been an on and off feature as Google and Amazon go back and forth rights and privileges. Lots of folks are hoping Amazon can reach an agreement and have access to the wealth of content available on YouTube. If you ask Alexa to search for YouTube content, she has an answer for you.

"YouTube is not available," says Alexa in a stern voice. "Here is what I found." The latter refers to similar content available from other sources, such as Vimeo and Dailymotion, which also are video-sharing websites.

The Amazon Echo Show is available at you-know-where for around $150 and also can be found at some Best Buy brick-and-mortar stores. I purchased the last one on the shelf at my local Best Buy.

Just like my conclusion in the Drone article, I didn’t know I needed an Echo Show until I got one. I thought the tall guys, the 1st Generation, and 2nd Generation Echo devices met my needs. But the Echo Show is such an impressive technological device, I need another one. It looks like I'm hooked again.

Propel Dart 1.0 drone is perfect for beginners

My first drone, the Propel Dart 1.0, found its way into the shopping cart because it was on sale. I never thought I would want a Drone or even like flying a Drone, or let's say “trying to fly” a drone.

The Propel Dart 1.0, my first drone, is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, plus four rotor blades. The technical specs say it’s a 2.4 GHz indoor/outdoor high-performance flying machine with a 200-foot operational range, supported by a 2.4G radio remote controller. Just like its larger cousins, such as a Boeing 747, it has LED directional white lights the front and red on the back.

The Propel company has been in the drone business in the United States since 2006 and recently launched a line of Disney “Star Wars battle drones” with reverse propulsion, flight simulation, an iOS app and gaming for up to 12 players.

For the Dart, I choose the bright red color off the shelves, as I thought it would be easier to see or find in the bushes or a field if my flight pattern went haywire. Or could easily be spotted in the top of a tree, for which I hear stories of this being the final resting place for a lot of spanking-brand-new drones. It also comes in silver and blue.

Propel drone includes spare rotor blades, removable controller grips

In the box, protected by industrial-strength plastic packing, I found the Dart 1.0, a Wireless Controller, a USB charging cord, some spare parts and an intimidating instruction booklet for such a small device. Later on, I would appreciate having the spare rotor blades.

Once out of the box, make sure the Dart is charged and ready for action. The drone unit uses a USB connector that “must” be plugged into a computer, which I find odd since it’s not actually syncing to the computer. A red LED light on the USB plug will indicate charging is complete, which could range from 30 to 45 minutes for five to seven minutes of flying time. The controller requires two AAA batteries.

<img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HpsRhJXVCqs/Wiya1B3-8YI/AAAAAAAAUqU/ccB8QAsJbM4ggFpziaCJa8cSADHRMYw6QCLcBGAs/s1600/Propel%2BDart%2B1.0%2BDrone%2BController%2Bwith%2BRemovable%2BGrips.jpg" data-original-width="575" data-original-height="431" alt+"Propel Dart 1.0 drone controller has removable grips" />

The controller, or remote, is feature laden for such a small device, with controls for adjusting forward and backward trim, as well as banking and the yaw. With the proper adjustments, the Dart is supposed to hover steadily in mid-air with no drifting left or right, forward or backward. There is also a six-axis gyro tucked away inside the device to assist with level hovering and flight.

Dart 1.0 start/land buttons help drone with smooth takeoff and landings

For beginner drone pilots, like myself, I also appreciated a dedicated Start and Landing button to safely get off the ground and back down again without any mishaps. The Dart has four modes - Training, Slow, Medium and High. I’ll be in (T) Training mode for a while, which allows you to learn to fly at a slow speed. After familiarizing myself with the controls, it’s time to fly.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Buy Now: Propel Dart 1.0

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This drone has a three-channel mode for beginners and a four-channel mode for advanced flying. It’s helpful to know the default setting for the Dart is in four-channel mode and you might consider stepping down a notch to novice before taking off.

You’ll need to sync the Dart and Controller before taking off into the wild blue yonder. Just place the drone on a flat surface and activate the throttle lever. The LED lights should turn on, clearing you for takeoff.

Of course, the directions say you should be in a wide open space, with at least a 200-foot radius. I’ll have to settle for my driveway.

Thanks to the automatic take-off button, I’m off the pavement and in the air in a breeze. With a careful press of the direction lever, I move toward a chain link fence in a controlled manner. Then back to the airport, or my take-off spot on the driveway, followed by pressing the automatic landing button, and the Dart landing softly with everything intact. The rotors automatically shut off after landing.
After you build your flying skills and confidence, you can exit training mode, manually start the rotor blades to spinning and lift off using the throttle lever. The challenge in manual mode will be to return at some point and land safely.

Propel Dart programmed for automatic stunt rolls

The Dart is capable of doing 360-degree aerial rolls, with a dedicated Stunt Roll Button waiting to be pressed once you feel like an expert. It’ll require some quick maneuvering of the control stick to accomplish these tricks.

Although the Dart is considered a toy and can be purchased for around $40, it has remarkable engineering and still falls under the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) compliance rules Part 15 for a Class B digital device. If the weight was above 0.55 pounds, it would need to be registered with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for small unmanned aircraft.

I’m looking forward to purchasing a larger drone at some point with the integrated camera and more features. Or maybe I’ll put a couple of mid-range devices in the Amazon basket to hone my piloting skills a little more before going all out with a DJI, GoPro, UDI, Hubsan, or Yuneec. At some point, I hope to be ready for a Cadillac of drones.

At any rate, I didn’t know I would like a drone, but now I need another one. I’m hooked.

For adventure seekers, Urban Armor Gear has introduced a new rugged case for the Microsoft Surface laptop that is built to military drop-test standards.

Widely known as the maker of various rugged cases for the latest iPhones and Samsung Galaxy devices, UAG strives to offer protection for thrill-seekers out on the trails with their mobile gear.

"Laptops hold so much valuable information, and we are delighted to introduce a case that is designed to offer ultimate protection for Microsoft Surface devices," said Michael McVerry, Senior Marketing Manager at UAG.

Their latest case for the Surface laptop will cost around $80 for a dual-lock screen closure, tactile grips, and of course, a Surface Pen Holder. Your color choice is limited to Ice, which seems to be a popular choice for their cases for other devices.

I recently reviewed the case for the iPhone 7 and found it to be well constructed and lightweight. My iPhone was well protected and I would also consider a UAG case for the Surface laptop if one appears under the Christmas Tree.

Find the TV remote, because Vizio Inc. is hoping to grab your attention with Amazon Video on their SmartCast TV platform.

With just a few taps of the remote, SmartCast TV users can access content from Amazon Video, along with other favorite apps such as Crackle, Hulu, iHeartRadio, Netflix, Pluto TV, Vudu and XUMO1 on the big screen.

The new features are available now to all 2017 VIZIO SmartCast P-Series and M-Series Ultra HD Displays, with plans to add additional series such as 2017 VIZIO SmartCast E-Series Ultra HD Displays later this summer.

Amazon Video allows consumers to buy or rent thousands of movies, while also granting unlimited access to thousands of titles, such as the Amazon Original Series and Movies such as Transparent, The Grand Tour and Manchester by the Sea and kids series Tumble Leaf. For new Prime customers, there is free 30-day trial to try out Prime Video.

"With the recent launch of SmartCast TV, one of the things we're most excited about is providing consumers with added entertainment options," said Matt McRae, Chief Technology Officer, VIZIO. "Amazon Video brings an array of content options to the screen, all accessible on the traditional remote via the Amazon Video button. We're glad to continue to bring in-demand content and solutions to our customers."

The addition of Amazon Video to VIZIO SmartCast TV gives consumers access to even more content options with features including select 4K Ultra HD titles on compatible displays featuring VIZIO SmartCast TV. Because the app is accessible directly from the display, Amazon Prime members can now easily access movies and TV episodes without the need for a separate streaming device.

To get started, you'll need the new 2017 remote featuring the V-button, which has a one-button access to the VIZIO SmartCast TV user interface, along with shortcut keys to top apps, including Amazon Video.

If you already have an eligible Vizo model TV and meet certain conditions, you can receive the new SmartCast remote free or for a nominal fee.

Posted by Earnest Hart | LifeFlicks, LLChttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11329435725692766710noreply@blogger.com1
